The key to protecting your rights is simple: know them. By knowing how your rights are protected, it becomes very hard for anyone to violate them. This is where Ravencall comes in. We make it easy for students (and parents) to familiarize themselves with their rights so that they can then protect themselves, and we also make the information they need to do so freely available. To further understand how this site works, we recommend that you view our About This Site page and our Project Plan.

A large part of this site is dedicated to a database of resources on various issues regarding student rights, school law, and information for students and parents. The purpose of this database is to make the information that students and parents need free access to readily available, to make professional assistance easily available for students and parents, and to have the information organized for ease of use. We have also compiled the various State and Federal education laws and codes for fast reference and legal research.

We recommend that you visit our publications page as well as there are many free documents provided there that may solve your immediate questions. These publications are meant to quickly inform students and parents of their rights as well as school law, and to make key information readily available. All official Ravencall publications are available online free of charge and may be freely reprinted and distributed for non-commercial use. Many additional free publications from other organizations are also provided for download.

Another important function of Ravencall is that of what we call "advocacy referral," and it is one that we take great pride in executing. If for some reason a dispute with your school continues despite your best efforts to resolve it, we will do everything in our power to place you in touch with advocates who specialize in cases such as yours. While we cannot handle actual legal cases ourselves, we will go the extra mile to make sure that you find someone who can and will represent you to the fullest extent possible.

We are always available for contact if you cannot find something or need help with a school related matter. Don't hesitate to drop us a line if you need assistance in finding something in our database or with a particular dispute with your school district. We are always willing to assist students who need help in protecting their rights in our education system as well as parents who are fighting for their children in schools who are unable to fight for themselves.

Student Rights Handbook (Published by NYRA)

We encourage every student (and parent, for that matter) who visits our website to download and print out this PDF file. It's completely free and will help you understand your rights in public schools. School Districts provide a manual at the start of the school year telling you what you CAN'T do; this tells you what you CAN do and how to protect your right to do so.

NOTE: The Information provided here on this site is meant as a service to the public and should not (and is not intended to) take the place of actual legal advice. If you have a legal question or case, please consult an attorney. This is to ensure the best solution possible for you. Websites (and the law) change from time to time, and the accuracy of the information linked in our database and elsewhere is not guaranteed, although it is presumed accurate to the best of our knowledge.
