Taking an Active Stance in School Policy and Defending Your Rights:

The key to preserving your rights is simple: know them. If you are familiar with your rights and how they are legally protected, it is extremely difficult for someone to suppress them. In addition, if you are familiar with your rights, you will know when they are being threatened and what to do to safeguard them.

A key issue that Ravencall addresses is educating students and parents about their respective rights and providing them with resources to help them defend their rights should the need arise. By using this method, Ravencall effectively arms students and parents with the knowledge of how to defend themselves, making it much less likely for their rights to be violated.

A large part of this site is dedicated to a database of resources on various issues regarding student rights, school law, and information for students and parents. The purpose of this database is to make the information that students and parents need free access to readily available, to make professional assistance easily available for students and parents, and to have the information organized for ease of use. We have also compiled the various State and Federal education laws and codes for fast reference and legal research.

Ravencall also encourages students and parents to take an active role in school policy in order to allow better public oversight of schools. Students taking an active role in policy also gives voice to those who are most affected by the policy and who have the best knowledge of the problems with it: the students. While this form of activism will most certainly not be sought by all students who visit our site, we encourage those who wish to defend their and their fellow students' rights to become involved in their schools. If you are one of these students, we recommend that you visit Freechild and read their information on becoming involved in your school, and that you not hesitate in Contacting Us if you have any questions.

Ravencall is also available for contact should a serious dispute arise between students or parents and the school district. Most of our assistance will be in the form of consulting, and we will not act as litigators nor provide legal advice. However, if the issue is left unresolved and the only option left is legal action, we will help you in finding a qualified legal professional in order to resolve your case as best as possible.

Ravencall also exists to protect students' rights abroad, be it at home, on the street, or on the internet. If it affects the rights of a student in some form, we will most likely be open to assisting in the matter. In addition, there may be information presented in our database about grounds to challenge a rule or law that adversely affects students that may be relevant to one of our visitors. If it affects you and you wish to pursue action to change the rule or law, please feel free to Contact Us for additional information.

It is also our hope that educating the public about student rights and school law, in addition to encouraging "self defense" of rights, will in time allow for and promote comprehensive reform of the public school system.
